How to choose.
Three questions settle it faster than any feature matrix.
- 1
Does anything get added to your emails?
If you send proposals, applications, or client work, this is disqualifying on its own. Check the free plan specifically — that is where the branding lives. Full detail on the signature question.
- 2
What is the free plan’s real limit?
"Free" means very different things here: unlimited-but-first-open-only, 200 notifications, 24 hours, or 5 emails a month. Find the number before you commit a workflow to it.
- 3
Do you need a CRM, or an answer?
Streak and HubSpot are excellent if you genuinely run a pipeline. If the question is "did they read it, and when should I chase," a CRM is a large tax on a small answer.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
- What is the best free email tracker for Gmail in 2026?
- It depends what "free" has to mean. If free must include unlimited tracking with nothing added to your emails, MailSenseAI is the only option in this list: unlimited opens, clicks, and replies with no signature on any plan. Mailtrack and Mailsuite offer unlimited tracked emails but count only the first open and append their own signature. Streak’s free plan is generous but ships a whole CRM with it. Yesware caps free tracking at 24 hours, HubSpot at 200 notifications a month, and Right Inbox at 5 emails a month.
- Which Gmail email trackers add a signature to your emails?
- Among the popular options, the Mailtrack/Mailsuite line does on its free plan — its pricing page lists “Promotional Signature Removal” as a paid feature. Streak, Yesware, HubSpot, Right Inbox, Saleshandy, and MailSenseAI do not. The trade-off is that most of those instead cap the free plan hard; MailSenseAI does neither.
- Do I need a CRM to track email opens?
- No. Streak and HubSpot are CRMs that include tracking, which is worth it if you also need pipelines and records. If all you want is to know whether your proposal was read and when to follow up, a dedicated tracker is cheaper, faster to set up, and less to maintain.
- Is email open tracking accurate?
- It is directional, not exact. Open tracking works via a 1×1 pixel, so image-blocking clients suppress opens and privacy features like Apple Mail Privacy Protection pre-fetch them, which inflates counts if a tracker does not filter for it. MailSenseAI filters Apple prefetches and the sender’s own self-opens; read the full mechanics in our guide to how open tracking works.
- Can I use more than one email tracker at once?
- Technically yes — they are separate Chrome extensions — but it is rarely useful. Two trackers inject two pixels and produce two sets of numbers that disagree. Running both for a few days is a fine way to compare before you switch.
